One at a time

What each one is doing.

Five ingredients, and a reason for each. No fillers, no synthetic fragrance, nothing added to pad the list out.

  1. A cut aloe vera leaf beside a dish of clear gel.

    Aloe barbadensis

    Aloe Vera

The base of the whole formula. Aloe carries the oils, spreads easily, and absorbs rather than sitting on the surface — which is why the gel does not leave a heavy residue behind.

Why it is in there It is the carrier. Everything else is suspended in it.

  2. A bundle of fresh lavender stems on a travertine stone slab.

    Lavandula angustifolia

    Lavender

The scent most people notice first. Familiar, soft, and the reason the gel smells like something you would actually want to put on at the end of the day.

Why it is in there Scent, and the calm end of the blend.

  3. Eucalyptus branches on a travertine stone slab.

    Eucalyptus globulus

    Eucalyptus

Where the cooling sensation comes from. It is the sharpest note in the blend and the one you feel most clearly in the first minute after it goes on.

Why it is in there The cooling feel on the skin.

  4. Marjoram sprigs and cracked black peppercorns on a stone slab.

    Origanum majorana · Piper nigrum

    Marjoram & Black Pepper

The warm counterweight. On their own they would be too much; against the eucalyptus they round the blend out so it does not read as purely cold.

Why it is in there Balance. They stop the blend feeling one-note.

The full list

Five things go into the gel: an aloe vera base and four essential oils. The aloe base arrives as a prepared gel rather than raw leaf juice, so on an ingredients label it has to be broken down into what it is made of. That is why the printed list runs longer than five lines. Here is all of it.

The aloe vera base

Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Aqua, Carbomer, Phenoxyethanol, Benzyl Alcohol, Caprylyl Glycol, Sodium Benzoate, Sodium Hydroxide, Citric Acid, Decylene Glycol, Potassium Sorbate

Alongside the aloe itself, this is what gives the gel its texture and keeps it safe to use for the life of the tub. Carbomer is what makes it a gel rather than a liquid; the rest preserve it and keep the pH kind to skin. Without them a water-based product would spoil within weeks.

The four essential oils

  • Lavender — Lavandula Angustifolia Oil
  • Marjoram — Origanum Marjorana Leaf Oil
  • Black pepper — Piper Nigrum Fruit Oil
  • Eucalyptus — Eucalyptus Globulus Leaf Oil

The list printed on your tub shows all of these in order of quantity, as the rules require.

Allergens

Essential oils naturally contain components that count as declarable allergens under UK cosmetics rules — linalool and limonene are the common ones in a lavender and eucalyptus blend. Where they are present above the threshold they appear at the end of the ingredients list printed on your tub.

If you react to a particular ingredient, ask us before you order and we will check the label and tell you exactly what is in it.

Questions about the formula

If there is something specific you need to know before ordering — an allergy, an ingredient you avoid — ask us and we will check the label for you.

Safety

Before you use it.

A cosmetic, not a medicine. A few sensible things to know before your first use.

  • For external use only.
  • Do not use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Patch-test before use and leave overnight.
  • Wash your hands after use.
  • Stop use if any reaction occurs.
  • You must be 18 or over to order.
