It started as one rugby player's own sports rub. Twenty years of refining later, it is the first product Elysium Relief has put on the shelf.
Where it began
Twenty years in the making.
The formula started about twenty years ago, as a rub Andrew Walker mixed for himself while he was playing rugby — something to use before a game and again afterwards.
He kept changing it. Over the years the blend settled into the gel-like cream it is today, and he still uses it daily, long after the rugby stopped.
Elysium Relief is the business Sharron Walker built around it. The Cooling & Soothing Body Gel is the first product to reach the shelf, and the range will grow from there.

The idea behind cooling relief
Cooling remedies for tired, aching or overworked muscles have a long history. For centuries, mint plants and aromatic botanicals were valued for the fresh, cooling sensation they created on the skin. Over time that understanding developed into modern topical products, many of which use ingredients such as menthol and camphor to create a cooling, soothing feel for muscles and joints.
Ours takes a different route to the same sensation: an aloe vera base carrying lavender, marjoram, black pepper and eucalyptus.
Why a gel format matters
As lifestyles became busier and more active, people started looking for muscle care that was easy to apply, quick to absorb and pleasant to use. Gels became popular because they spread smoothly, feel light on the skin, and give a refreshing sensation without the heaviness of a traditional balm or ointment. That makes them useful after exercise, long periods on your feet, physical work, travel, gardening, or everyday stiffness.
The development of our formula
It began as a practical sports rub, created by Andrew Walker while he was playing rugby around twenty years ago. What started as a pre- and post-sport application gradually became the gel-like cream we sell today.
Over the years Andrew refined the blend to improve its consistency, its feel and its everyday usefulness. He carried on using it himself — not only around sport, but as part of his own routine for soothing tight, tired and uncomfortable muscles. He still does.

How we make it
The formula is an aloe vera base carrying four essential oils — lavender, marjoram, black pepper and eucalyptus. That is the whole thing. The full ingredients list is published on our Ingredients page, because you should be able to read what you are putting on your skin.
It is made in small batches. That is partly a choice and partly a practicality: a small range made carefully is easier to keep consistent than a big one made at volume.
What we will not do
We will not claim the gel treats, cures or prevents anything. It is a cosmetic, not a medicine, and we would rather tell you honestly what it is than dress it up as something it is not.
We will not pad the ingredients list out to make it look more impressive, and we will not use a synthetic fragrance to make it smell stronger than the oils themselves do.
